The annual merit making ceremony to the Empress of Heaven or Chao Mae Thap Thim pays homage to an ancient Chinese deity and wishes Hua Hin’s fisherman bon voyage for the fishing season to come. The ceremony will take place at the Chinese shrine at the rear of the Hilton hotel and the nearby foreshore over the weekend of 15th- 16th September 2018. The purpose of this event is to celebrate Thai traditions and support local fisherman as they ready themselves for the new fishing season. Making merit to spirits of the shrine is said to ensure the good fortunes of fishermen and their families.
Making merit involves a small donation to receive a doll on which your name is written. The doll is then placed on a fishing boat before setting out to sea. On Saturday 15th September at 3.00 p.m. there will be a parade around Hua Hin sponsored by the TAT Prachuap and the Ka-toy Ruk Hua Hin Group with free tram rides for tourists to see around old Hua Hin town. The rides commence at 10.00 a.m., 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. from the Hua Hin Railway Station with 30 passengers for each 1 hour trip.
