Sheraton Hua Hin Pranburi Villas has a prime location on the long stretch of ocean frontage at Paknampran. That’s just a 20 minute drive south from Hua Hin and the perfect place for a weekend away at a luxury villa or just an afternoon of indulgence at the Luan La Pran Restaurant.
Our afternoon visit to Luna La Pran couldn’t take advantage of any moonlight vistas as the name ‘Luna’ suggests, but the cooling breezes and sea view panorama was the perfect setting to enjoy a fine dining experience. The official entrance to the Sheraton is down a small side road off the beachfront with a 5 minute stroll to the restaurant. Although just parking on the ocean road may be a closer option, the stroll was a great introduction to the serenity of the resort, along a palm fringed green walk-way with salas almost floating in water lily ponds, just a hint of the very private villas nearby and past the other dining place; the slightly more formal Dalah Restaurant.
Taking a table inside, the outside terrace or rooftop makes little difference to the outlook across gardens to the neverending ocean views. Extensive windows mean almost no visual interruptions. Air-conditioning is available for warmer days, but typically the cooling breezes will keep temperatures very pleasant. Sous Chef Nakorn proudly introduced us to his selection of specialty dishes which clearly had been prepared with a ‘seasoned’ knowledge.
He knows how to present the quintessential flavours of Thailand in a way that allows for the frailties of the Western palate, with the delightful profiles of spicy, sour, sweet and salty; outstanding Thai cuisine. Larb Nuae is char grilled ‘Pon Yang Khan’ beef tenderloin salad with shallots, roasted rice, chili and mint leaves. This is a minced beef salad sharply flavored with citrus and fish sauce with fiery Thai chilies. Pla Krapong Lui Suan is deep fried sea bass fillets with lemon grass, shallots, ginger, chili, mint and peanuts. Gaen Ped Phed Yang is roasted duck in red curry sauce with pineapple, lychee cherry tomates and baby eggplant.
The Luna La Pran menu focuses on fresh ingredients and emphasises both the flavour and nutritional value of indigenous produce, mostly sourced locally on a daily basis. Apart from our selection, a must-try dish is the Pranburi Squid. The new-wave Luna La Pran Restaurant promises pleasurable dining and wining moments amid the peace and panorama of the Pranburi coastline.
