‘Wandering Spirit’ Mick Jagger This is a classic rock solo album from Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Many expats have literally grown up with Mick and the ‘Stones’ but may not have discovered this one.
Wandering Spirit, released in 1993, was Mick Jagger’s only solo record of the ’90s; an album Rolling Stones fans can really savour. We think it’s the best solo release of his career. Sir Michael Philip “Mick” Jagger, from Dartford UK, is now 72 years old but showing no signs of leaving the world of rock. The lyrics of the title track of this album could be a eulogy for Mick when he finally departs the scene.
“I’m a wandering spirit, no escape, no parole ……………… I’m a wandering spirit, I’m a lost and lonely soul” ‘Wandering Spirit’ sees Jagger with a raw, guitar-based palette; “If you look at it, there are only maybe three rock songs on it in the traditional form. The rest is R&B, or country, or gospel influenced, or rockabilly, or whatever”, is Mick’s description. If you’ve worn out your Stones’ collection but still hanker for those raunchy rock sounds, Wandering Spirit is for you. It’s easy to imagine the ‘rooster-strut’ and pouting lips of Mick’s onstage presence.
