Beachside at the InterContinental Resort Hua Hin was the venue of last month’s 2017 Princess Pa’s Cup, the Asian Championship of Beach Polo.
Sponsored by the InterContinental Resort, Proud Real Estate and B. Grimm, this was the annual event fund raising for the Nabha Foundation under the patronage of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha. The Foundation gives a chance to the disadvantaged and marginalised; especially to give a new start in life to current and former prison inmates. The event commenced with a Grand Parade then the official opening with Suwat Liptapanlop ‘at the reins’ alongside the Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Dr. Thawee Narisisrikul and Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Vuttikul.
The opening and official welcoming party Apart from the main polo event, other equestrian events included horse racing, barrel racing and the all-important fashion parade on horseback. Into the evening, high fashion continued to be on show with a blue theme for the cocktail dinner and fund-raising auction. And the winners? Germany edged out the Thailand Team by 5 points to 31/2 ½to take the Princess Pa Cup. If you are wondering how a team can score half a point; it’s all about handicapping. The international rules of polo allow for points or half points to be awarded to a less experienced team before play commences. In this case the slightly less experienced Thai team was awarded half a point to even out the game …………………. almost!
Germany (red shirts) outplayed the less experienced Thailand team to take the 2017 Princess Pa Cup.
