The Mayor of Hua Hin, the local office of non-formal and informal education and the Hua Hin train station are planning to renovate the Hua Hin train library, making if a tourist attraction. After meeting with the Director-General of the State Railway of Thailand and the Transport Minister, the Hua Hin Mayor Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul said that he had visited the Hua Hin train library by a garden next to the Hua Hin train station with the Director of the local office of non-formal and informal education Ms. Sutthikarn Yamnil and the chief of the Hua Hin train station Mr. Prasong Komuk.
Since its opening by HRH Princess Sirindhorn 6 years ago, the library requires new publications, modern electronic loan system and efficient library service. There is a need for renovation and an upgrading to increase its tourism appeal. At the moment, the State Railway of Thailand has not handed over the train library to the Hua Hin Municipality and the local office of non-formal and informal education. Concerned authorities cannot propose a budget for improvement and renovation.
“As the Mayor of Hua Hin, I am sure that once the train library is given to us, we’ll be able to find some budget to improve and make it more useful for research and education of visitors and our students here,” said Mr. Nopporn. “This will also serve as a tourist attraction for foreigners.” The Hua Hin mayor added that the meeting with the Minister of Transport, the Permanent Secretary of Transport and the Director-General of the State Railway of Thailand focused mainly on how to transfer the train library to the Municipality and how to wisely make use of and add more value to old train bogies.
