As Hua Hin continues to move forward as a destination in tune with the needs of international travellers, there’s also a need for resort executives to understand the ‘bigger picture’.

That means being well educated, having broad experience in the wider world and staying informed about trends and future needs. The InterContinental Hua Hin has recently appointed a new Director of Sales & Marketing, Ms.Chompoonut Suntornpong, who meets that need. First Khun Boom, as she is known to her friends, has a Master’s Degree from the Schiller International University, London, England in International Hotel and Tourism Management. Second she has experience at resorts in the Maldives, Vietnam and most recently Bali, Indonesia apart from Thailand locations in Phuket, Chiang Mai and ‘back home’ in Bangkok. There’s been recognition of her abilities to manage re-branding and start-up projects and she is in demand as a guest speaker and lecturer at universities and at conventions, corporate functions and trade shows. The list of career achievements is impressive with an extensive CV to match Developing Hua Hin’s tourism potential is very much on the mind of Khun Boom. This particularly relates to the ‘MICE’ scene (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events).

This is a competitive business which needs international marketing and the creation of brand awareness. Khun Boom knows that ‘Brand Hua Hin’ needs more development, apart from the InterContinental Brand as a destination which has all the necessary facilities and expertise to meet the needs of MICE travellers. Having a relaxed and delectable lunch at the InterContinental’s Pirom restaurant was an opportunity to learn from a professional in the hospitality industry who really understands the bigger picture. Khun Boom is a modest lady who doesn’t ‘blow her own trumpet’, describing herself as a ‘small potato’. This is an expression learnt whilst staying with a London family during university years. However we expect that Khun Boom can play a ‘big potato’ role as Hua Hin tourism moves forward to add a more strategic approach to the high level of client services and facilities already on offer.
