A search and rescue mission for a missing elderly Norwegian woman in Cha-am ended happily when a helicopter search crew spotted her under a tree near her hotel. Toskardal Schikora, 76, reportedly separated from her friends for a walk on the Cha-am beach became lost in the woods after injuring her leg. Her friends received a call from her at 7pm, in which Ms Schikora said she’d fallen over something near a tree and felt faint. The call was cut off and it is understood that the phone battery had failed.
Her friends sought help from authorities and local Norwegian helpers who immediately launched a search that continued until the early hours of the morning, but did not find the woman. The helicopter search was deployed at first light then lead to her discovery under a tree behind her hotel. Ms Schikora was taken to Cha-am Hospital for treatment of exhaustion and an injury to her leg.
