Tracking Down Tourists

Phuket deputy governor Thavornrat Kongkaew has displayed a QR code wristband equipped with GPS system which is being mooted as a way that officials could track down tourists caught in a boat or car accident. One of the problems during tragedies such as the one in Phuket and the Tsunami disaster is the difficult job of identifying victims. The wristband will contain personal information. The QR code, abbreviated from “Quick Response Code”, is a machine-readable optical label containing information. The suggestion is that the wristband won’t be compulsory and mainly aimed at people going on long boat trips. It will probably cost 100 THB and bundled with 20 day insurance of around 1 Million THB for death and 500,000 THB for injury.
