Spots Pool Bar was purpose built from scratch some 9 months ago, opened 25th March, and was an instant hit.
The management took no short cuts to ensure the optimum pool playing environment. There are 3 full size 9 foot Brunswick tables, with a replacement cost of 300,000 THB each, with best quality Simoniz cloth, Aramis tournament balls, LED lighting, and with the red spotted white balls to see the spin applied. Comfortable sofas and chairs, as well as bar stools enhance the atmosphere, with soft ambient music playing in the background.
When we called by the Spots’ Team was about to head off Bangkok to compete against teams from Bangkok, Pattaya and Singapore, with prize money of 18,000 THB going to the winning team. Tony tells me, the typical clientele at Spots Pool Bar are a ready mix of expats and Thais, male and female. Many come with their partners, with groups of friends, or on their own, and like to play for fun, as well as the more serious players who like to come and practice to improve their game. With three tables, there are enough for everyone to play. Two tables are run as Challenge tables, where the winner stays on, which is a great way to meet new people, to play against people of varying abilities.
One table is available for private hire by the hour. Challenge tables are free to play, unlike similar establishments in Bangkok. Customers comment that they appreciate the air conditioning and smoke free environment, as well as the well stocked bar, with very reasonable prices. There is a spacious outdoor area where smokers can smoke, tables and chairs for those wanting to eat, and a large screen monitor showing Premiership football, or other major events. Spots run regular fun competitions, for individuals, and corporate events and compete in local fun Leagues.
