Aug 16: Prachuap reports 95 new COVID-19 cases, 8 cases in Hua Hin, 4 deaths

Health officials on Monday (Aug 16) reported 95 new COVID-19 cases, 8 of which were found in Hua Hin. Four deaths were also reported.

Elsewhere in the province, 14 cases were found in Pranburi, 15 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 29 new cases in Kuiburi, zero in Thap Sakae, 9 cases in Bang Saphan, 3 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 10 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Health official said many of the new cases were linked to the following clusters:

  • Pranburi fishing boat cluster: 3 new cases
  • Tagerng​ fruit​ factory: 13 new cases
  • Prachuap fresh market: 6 new cases
  • Kuiburi fruit factory cluster: 22 new cases
  • Kuiburi birthday party cluster: 5 new cases

Four new deaths were also reported taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 30.

Those who died included a 65 year old female from Hua Hin with an underlying health condition, a 67 year old male from Sam Roi Yot who health officials said was a heavy drinker and smoker, a 50 year old male from Bang Saphan with an underlying health condition and 44 year old male also from Bang Saphan with no underlying health conditions.

All of the deceased were unvaccinated, officials said.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the province since April 1 to 6,544 cases.

Meanwhile, 228 people were also discharged from hospital or quarantine having made a full recovery.

Of the 6,544 cumulative total cases in the province, 1,540 are currently receiving treatment in hospital or are staying in quarantine, while a total of 4,974 have made a full recovery and have already been discharged.

Health officials say 100 patients are currently in a serious condition in hospital, while 261 others are in what is described as a moderate condition.

Meanwhile, health officials have announced that 119,626 people in Prachuap Khiri Khan have received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, 178,392 have received one dose and 54,103 have received both doses. 4,663 people have received a third ‘booster’.

362 people, understood to be mainly French expats, have received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
