Construction work on Soi 94 has now resumed after several weeks of delays, with new signage now installed and a one-way traffic system.

For motorists, the road is probably best avoided, particularly during rush hour.

The roadworks, which include the construction of a reinforced concrete road and drainage system from the railway to the front of Chang Heng Hotel, had been halted due to challenging soil conditions that caused repeated collapses during excavation.

However, after revising the construction plans and addressing these technical difficulties, the project is moving forward again.

A one-way system has been introduced along the route to help manage traffic flow.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2024, as the contractor works to meet the new timeline.

The resumption comes after local residents and business owners raised concerns during a meeting with municipal officials on Tuesday (Sept 10).

The meeting, chaired by Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul, provided an update on the situation and discussed the challenges that had halted the roadworks.

The project, which involves the construction of a reinforced concrete road with a drainage system along Soi 94, from the railway to the front of the Chang Heng Hotel, has been managed by Alongkot Materials Limited Partnership. Local residents and business owners, concerned about the sudden stop in construction, attended the meeting alongside the Deputy Mayor, municipal council members, department heads, and project supervisors.

According to the municipality, the construction faced significant challenges due to the soil conditions in the area. The sandy and water-retentive soil layers caused repeated collapses during excavation for drainage pits, making it impossible to continue work as planned. These issues, combined with discrepancies between the construction plans and actual site conditions, led to a temporary halt as the contract had to be revised.

Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul explained these obstacles to the residents, ensuring that efforts were being made to overcome the technical difficulties. The meeting resulted in a mutual understanding between the project team and affected community members. It was agreed that construction would resume shortly, with work scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., allowing businesses to operate outside these hours.

The Soi 94 roadworks are part of a larger effort to repair one of the most uneven and damaged road surfaces in central Hua Hin, an issue that has been raised by both residents and local businesses over the years.
