Health officials in Prachuap Khri Khan are warning people not to be careless and not drop their guard against the spread of COVID-19.
The warning comes following a recent surge in cases throughout the province.
On Friday (Oct 22) Prachuap Khiri Khan reported 341 new COVID-19 cases, the most number of cases reported in a single day for almost two months.
The situation is concerning health officials as clusters are being discovered throughout the province, including in Hua Hin.
The most recent spike in cases are from clusters discovered at fruit processing factories in Pranburi.
Dr. Wara Selawattanakul, Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Public Health Doctor, urged people not to be careless and not to underestimate the severity of the situation.
Dr. Wara said most of the infections were amongst migrant workers, with public health officials co-ordinating with all relevant agencies to bring the latest surge in cases under control.
Dr. Wara also said it may be necessary to establish additional field hospitals if the situation continues to worsen.
He said the province has a a total 1,880 hospital beds and field hospitals which can be used to treat COVID-19 patients. However 1,200 beds are already being used.
Dr. Wara said because the number of cases continues to be more than 100 per day, people should avoid visiting crowded areas and refrain from social gatherings, particularly during the long weekend where many people will be travelling to the area.
