The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has launched a training initiative to equip local leaders in Hua Hin, with the tools to tackle intellectual property violations. The three-day programme, which began on 4 March 2025, aims to build a network of community figures capable of monitoring and reporting such offences.
Held at the Blue Wave Hotel in Hua Hin, the opening session was led by Major General Chalerm Niamchuai, Deputy Director of ISOC’s 3rd Operations Coordination Center. More than 80 participants, including government officials, sub-district headmen, village leaders, and representatives from local administrative bodies, gathered for the event, which runs until 6 March.
Major General Chalerm highlighted the persistent challenge of intellectual property violations in Thailand. “This is a serious issue that continues to affect the country,” he said. “Despite government measures to prevent and address it, the problem hasn’t been fully resolved. Violations still happen, whether deliberate or accidental.” He stressed the need for cooperation across all sectors to reduce and eventually eliminate these offences, noting that the training would cover government policies, legal frameworks, and practical steps for spotting and reporting issues effectively.
The initiative also seeks to raise awareness among a wider audience. Colonel Prachet Kanthong, Director of the Division for Prevention and Resolution of Issues Related to International Obligations at ISOC’s 3rd Operations Coordination Center, explained that the programme, organised with ISOC Prachuap Khiri Khan, targets not only community leaders but also small-scale vendors and residents. “We want people to understand the consequences of selling or using goods that breach intellectual property rights,” he said. “Their support is vital for government agencies to monitor, track, and address these violations.”
