More than 117,000 vehicles in Prachuap Khiri Khan have outstanding taxes, according to recent data released by the Provincial Transport Office. This figure represents over 33 percent of the total registered vehicles in the province.
As of June 30, 2024 (which was the most up to date data at the time of publishing), a total of 354,541 vehicles are registered in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Of these, 117,427 vehicles have overdue taxes, accounting for 33.12 percent of the total. The issue is particularly prevalent among motorcycles, with 88,298 out of 216,236 registered motorcycles—amounting to 40.33 percent—having unpaid taxes.
The Provincial Transport Office has urged vehicle owners to ensure their taxes are up to date, emphasizing the importance of road safety and legal compliance. Vehicles must be properly maintained, pass required inspections, and have valid insurance under the Road Accident Victim Protection Act (commonly known as “P.R.B.”) to cover potential accidents.
Additionally, the office is encouraging residents to register their vehicles within Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The taxes collected from vehicle registrations are allocated to local administrative organisations, contributing to infrastructure projects and the improvement of public services, including the management and maintenance of bus terminals.
Among the registered vehicles, those under the Transport Act (P.R.B.) account for 3.25 percent of the total, with 1,831 vehicles having overdue taxes—equating to 15.87 percent of this category.
For passenger cars, pickup trucks, and vans, which make up 35.76 percent of the total registered vehicles in the province, 21.53 percent have outstanding taxes.
The Provincial Transport Office is part of the Department of Land Transport and is responsible for collecting vehicle taxes and other related fees under the Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 (1979) and the Land Transport Act B.E. 2522 (1979). The office’s efforts aim to ensure that all vehicles on the road meet legal requirements, thereby enhancing safety for all road users.
