Huay Mongkol Temple in Hua Hin will host the 12th “Robing of the Giant Luang Pu Thuat” ceremony on 8–9 August to mark Mother’s Month and honour the 93rd birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Central Region, will begin on the evening of 8 August with a blessing ceremony at the plaza in front of the giant Luang Pu Thuat statue.
On 9 August, the main ceremony will take place from 6 p.m., when monks from across Hua Hin District will lead a chanting session in a royal merit-making ritual. Participants will then take part in a symbolic procession, carrying a 399-metre-long robe around the statue three times in a clockwise direction before draping it over the figure.

The event will feature light and sound displays to enhance the atmosphere, and each participant will receive a Luang Pu Thuat amulet as a token of the occasion.
Members of the public and Buddhists from across the region are invited to join the ceremony and take part in this merit-making event at Wat Huay Mongkol.
The statue of Luang Pu Thuat at the temple was built in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s sixth cycle birthday anniversary. Standing 11.5 metres tall with a lap width of 9.9 metres, the statue was cast in metal alloy and sits on a three-tiered base. Her Majesty presided over the casting ceremony in 2004 and gave permission for her royal cypher to be placed on the front of the statue.
Wat Huay Mongkol, previously named Wat Huay Khot, was renamed in 1952 following a visit by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX), who initiated his first royal development project in the area. Today, the temple is one of the most prominent religious landmarks in Hua Hin, attracting thousands of visitors daily.
