Police and rescue workers pulled a 38-year-old Russian man from a wrecked sedan after he crashed into a tree in Cha-am, sustaining serious injuries.
Authorities later discovered a small bag containing a white powder, suspected to be an illegal substance, in his possession.
The crash occurred along a roadside in Cha-am, where police, emergency responders, and local residents worked to free the driver from the damaged vehicle.
Images from the scene, shared by rescue workers, shows the grey sedan lying beneath a large tree, with its front bumper severely damaged.
A police officer used an axe to remove a tree branch, while rescuers and bystanders broke the car’s window to extract the injured man.
According to reports, the driver was bleeding from the mouth, and a shard of glass was embedded in his neck. He was transported to Cha-am Hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not yet provided an update on his condition.
During the journey to the hospital, officers searched the man’s pockets and found a zip-lock plastic bag containing a white powder. Police have yet to confirm the nature of the substance.
Investigators noted the absence of skid marks on the road, leading them to suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The force of the impact was strong enough to bring down the tree, which partially collapsed onto the car.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash and the suspected drug possession.
