In October, Hua Hin was listed in the ‘2023 Green Destination Top 100 Stories’ for showcasing exemplary destination management and sustainable tourism practices.

In a ceremony held on November 16, 2023, at the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort, the award was formally presented to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The event, organized by the Hua Hin Municipality in collaboration with the Hua Hin-Cha Am Tourism Business Association and the Tourism Council of Thailand, Prachuap Khiri Khan office, marked a milestone in Hua Hin’s journey towards becoming a world-class sustainable tourist destination.

This initiative aims to publicize Hua Hin to the global tourism network, spreading news to international markets to create widespread awareness and attract tourists to Thailand.

It also seeks to foster understanding of sustainable development principles in tourism, covering economic, social, cultural, lifestyle, and environmental aspects. This effort is intended to elevate Hua Hin to a world-class preferred sustainable tourism destination and declare it a special area for sustainable tourism.

The emblem and certificate were received by Mr. Atthaphon Wannakij, Director of the Northeastern Region, representing the Governor of the TAT.

Distinguished attendees included Lieutenant Adisak Noisuwan, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Ms. Suratsanee Thongmee, Director of Central Region Meeting and Exhibition Promotion Office (TCEB), and Mr. Chuwit Mitchoob, Deputy Director of Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), among others.

The ceremony also featured a panel discussion with key figures like Mr. Mr Polkrit Phuangvalaisin, Hua Hin District Chief, Ms. Wasana Srikanchana, President of the Hua Hin-Cha Am Tourism Business Association and Mr Chamnan Srisawat, President of Tourism Council of Thailand. The dialogue centered around sustainable development in tourism, emphasizing economic, social, cultural, lifestyle, and environmental aspects.

Mr. Archawan Kongkanant, Director of the TAT Office in Prachuap Khiri Khan, added that receiving the “2023 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories” award for Hua Hin is a significant step in driving sustainable tourism development in the area.

This achievement aligns with the policies of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and the TAT, promoting Hua Hin as a desirable, happy place to live. He thanked local government units, the community, and public sector networks for their collaborative efforts in making Hua Hin a recognized sustainable destination.

The TAT Office in Prachuap Khiri Khan plans to use this opportunity as a mechanism to further promote tourism in the area through marketing and public relations.

Organized by the Green Destinations Foundation, in partnership with the International Tourism Borse (ITB) in Berlin, the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories award honors destinations for their outstanding sustainable practices. The award criteria encompass six categories, including Culture & Tradition, Environment & Climate, and Thriving Communities.

Hua Hin was one of four Thai destinations to receive this honor in 2023, alongside the Old Town of Sukhothai Province, Nan’s Wiang Sa, and Khlong Thom in Krabi Province. This recognition is set to enhance Hua Hin’s reputation as a sustainable destination, attracting quality tourists to Thailand and bolstering the local economy.
