Authorities in Hua Hin have launched a large-scale crime prevention and public safety operation ahead of the Songkran holiday, aiming to ensure the safety of residents and tourists during the Thai New Year celebrations.
The operation was formally launched during a ceremony held at 7 p.m. on 10 April in front of Hua Hin Police Station. Presided over by Pol. Col. Kampanat Na Wichai, Superintendent of Hua Hin Police Station, the campaign focuses on crime suppression, public order, traffic management, and road safety throughout the holiday period.
Conducted under the directive of Pol. Gen. Kitirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, the operation follows orders from Pol. Lt. Gen. Naiwat Padermchit, Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 7, calling for coordinated efforts among all relevant agencies.
The campaign involves cooperation between the police, military personnel, local government officials, territorial defence volunteers, and staff from Hua Hin City Municipality. Around 200 individuals participated in the launch event, including Pol. Col. Thienchai Chomphu, Superintendent of Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration, and Pol. Lt. Col. Worarat Krungkanchana, Deputy Superintendent of Operations at Hua Hin Police Station.
Authorities said that during Songkran, which includes a long weekend, travel increases significantly as people return to their hometowns or visit major tourist destinations. The rise in activity can result in traffic congestion, higher accident rates, and opportunities for criminal activity, including illegal street racing and theft. Officials also expressed concern about potential criminal elements mingling with the crowds during Songkran festivities.
In response, local law enforcement agencies have intensified patrols and enforcement measures in key areas across Hua Hin. The objective, according to Pol. Col. Kampanat, is to safeguard lives and property, ensure public order, and foster a sense of security for both Thai and international visitors.
The campaign will remain active throughout the Songkran period, with a focus on visible law enforcement presence and rapid response to any incidents.
