The Swiss National Day was celebrated on 1st August by around 150 guests sporting the dress code of the evening with the red and white of the Swiss National Flag. The evening commenced in apéro style, that is a Swiss party as an all-purpose form of socialising, accompanied by some excellent Swiss white wine sponsored by the Swiss Embassy in Bangkok. Host Paul Grab opened the formal proceedings with with comments about the past and present of Switzerland. He was followed by Alan Berset, the President of the Swiss Confederation, in a video presentation.
After the President’s address, the national anthems of Switzerland & Thailand were played to a standing audience. The buffet included many delicious Swiss specialties, including raclette, a semi-hard cheese made on both sides of the French and Swiss Alps. Live music started during dinner time with rock and pop, and later a lively dance to end a memorable evening.
