Phetchaburi officials have launched a dust suppression campaign in response to hazardous levels of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) recorded in the province for several consecutive days.

On 23 January 2025, at 4:00 AM, Phetchaburi Deputy Governor Phakapass Songwattanayut, alongside Deputy Mayor of Phetchaburi Municipality Pol. Maj. Gen. Kitti Samphaothong and Deputy Commander of Military Circle 15 Col. Peerachat Phanthong, led an operation at King Rama IV Memorial Park in Phra Nakhon Khiri. According to data from the Pollution Control Department, PM 2.5 levels in Phetchaburi have exceeded the national safety standard for several days. On 22 January, the concentration reached 94.4 micrograms per cubic metre, categorised as hazardous to public health. Stagnant weather conditions are expected to sustain elevated pollution levels in the short term.

To address the issue, authorities deployed seven water trucks to spray main roads in Mueang Phetchaburi District, including Damnoen Kasem Road, Ratchadamnoen Road, Boripat Road, and Railway Road, among others.

Deputy Governor Phakapass urged residents to minimise outdoor activities and refrain from burning agricultural waste, a key contributor to air pollution. He stressed the importance of collective action in reducing PM 2.5 levels and improving air quality for the community’s well-being.

Local leaders, including village headmen and community representatives, have been directed to visit affected areas to raise awareness and enforce measures to curb agricultural and waste burning. Legal action will be taken against violators of regulations aimed at reducing hazardous emissions.

Officials have called on the public to remain vigilant and comply with recommended precautions while the operation continues.
