Kasetsart University Offers Construction Bidding For New Conference Centre

Kasetsart University will soon commence building the Chulabhorn Conference Centre, a new international conference venue for Hua Hin with an estimated cost of 550 million THB. Assistant Professor Khongsak Thiengtham, a veterinarian and the Director of Kasetsart University’s Veterinary Hospital in Hua Hin, commented that the hospital has invited private companies to bid. The construction site, located in Soi Hua Hin 94 on nearly 40 Rai of land, was donated to the hospital in 2004. If the bidding process is successful, the Conference Centre will be completed at the end of August, 2016.

The new conference centre will include a three-floor conference building of 11,734 square metres which will facilitate conferences for 880 people, a two-floor administration centre of 4,848 square metres and an eightfloor hotel of 113 guestrooms. Rooms will be 28 square metres in size, as well as a one-floor hotel for pet owners with 29 rooms, which will be 40 square metres in size.

“We will consider the proposals presented by each private company, then the University Council will select the most interesting and plausible bid at the end of January, 2016. The scope and limitations of the project will then be completed before inviting private companies to re-bid in February 2016,” said Asst. Prof. Khongsak. Important factors that the university will consider include the rental rate per year, the plan for using all building areas as well the benefits, additional to income, for the university, such as the use of conference buildings.

The main purpose of the Chulabhorn Conference Centre is to serve as a venue for exchanging veterinary sciences knowledge and innovations in Asia and as accommodation for meeting participants. It can also be a hotel for other visitors to Hua Hin as additional income for the university. “If the management of the new conference centre is effective, the university will gain approximately 25 million THB per year,” concluded Asst. Prof. Khongsak.
