On 13th April, the Hua Hin Municipality celebrated the traditional Thai New Year of Sonkran at Phon Kingphet Memorial Park. This festive event, chaired by the Hua Hin mayor Mr. Noppron Wutthikul, was attended by the municipal executives, the municipal council members, directors of local schools and representatives of local communities.
Before the opening ceremony of the event, the participants participated in the bathing of the Buddha image and the ceremony of pouring water on the senior’s hands to ask for their blessing. Holy water from the Abbot of Huay Mongkhol Buddhist Monastery was also sprinkled on participants as the New Year’s blessing. The Songkran procession then progressed from the memorial park to go round the city. The Cha-Am Songkran procession travelled along the beach road then along Narathip Road towards the municipality offices. Here are some images of the Songkram 2016.
