Changes Needed in Preparation for the Double Track Railway
The need to relocate both residents and part of the history of the Hua Hin Railway Station in preparation for the double track railway is resulting in some concerns for those involved.
Complaint letters have been received from about 1,200 families who lived around the State Railway land who now have no permanent place to live after they were required to leave their homes located next to the railway line because of new double track railway line and buildings.
Most of the residents have already moved to temporary accommodation but are protesting about their longer term needs. There are around 4,000 residents from 1,200 families that were told to leave by the end of November. The residents said that they have lived in the area for a long time and working in Hua Hin with children studying at local schools.
There are also elderly and disabled residents affected. The residents have told the mayor of Hua Hin that they have requested to move to Tong Leang Sut Tub Tai and are now waiting for an answer. The Mayor of Hua Hin, Mr. Nopporn Wootikol, with other municipal staff officials from the State Railway of Thailand have also been considering where the historic steam locomotive (number 305) and nearby spirit house should be moved in preparation for the double track rail construction. Last month the officials discussed options to move the steam locomotive 305 and the spirit house and considered two options.
It is understood that the major favours a location south of the station near Hua Hin Soi 78 and the base for the locomotive has already been prepared. However railway officials prefer to move these items north where there is an empty space not far from maintenance buildings. Further discussions will take place before a final decision is made to ensure that the location will be the most suitable place for the enjoyment of visitors to Hua Hin.
