Chinese New Year in Hua Hin

As the Chinese New Year is approaching this month, the Hua Hin Muncipality will organize a big festive event for Thai-Chinese local people and Chinese visitors in the city on 2 February 2011 at the Phon Kingpetch Memorial Park from 5 p.m. onwards.

Since the Chinese New Year generally symbolizes one of the Chinese traditional beliefs held by Chinese people worldwide, including Thailand, the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration aims to revive and foster such tradition. In this event, all Thai- Chinese people will have a chance to meet each other and other tourists, thus promoting tourism in Hua Hin, where a lot of Chinese have been living for quite a long time.

The event highlights a city-round procession, students’ performances and a dragon procession with a Chinese lion manipulation among others. Besides, along the streets of Hua Hin are decorated with red Chinese lanterns, a symbol of prosperity according to Chinese belief.
