Around a month ago the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin and THE BARAI announced the appointment of a German national from Neustadt/Weinstrasse, Mr. Christian Wurm, as General Manager.
Christian has an international perspective based on previous hospitality positions in regions including the Maldives, Canouan Island (Caribbean) and Dubai. In 2008, he began his career at Hyatt as Executive Assistant Manager at the Park Hyatt Sydney and was appointed General Manager of Park Hyatt Chennai in 2013. Christian has arrived here with his wife and two daughters only weeks ago and they are in the process of ‘finding their feet’.
His daughters (aged ten and seven) are settling in to school life at the International School at Black Mountain and the family is yet to move to their own family accommodation. Christian believes that Hua Hin offers a blend of the best features from his previous experiences in a familyfriendly environment. His biggest surprise so far is that this haven has only recently been ‘discovered’ by the international tourism industry. “I am delighted to be back in the ‘Land of Smiles’ and working in the charming city of Hua Hin after visiting Thailand many times during the last few years.
With the great increase of tourists around the world visiting every year, I am confident that Hua Hin has a promising future and will continually grow internationally in wider markets”. Christian’s experience in hospitality began with a culinary ‘apprenticeship’. From working as a chef he entered Hotel Management School and economics in Berlin followed by strategic management studies at Cornell University in New York. One of the important strategies of the Hyatt Regency management group followed by Christian is to always enquire about guests’ preferences and to modify services to match. Perhaps asking simple questions about why a particular refreshment drink is being presented when something else may be favoured.
That’s one of the benefits of a new management perspective; a fresh pair of eyes and a fresh enquiring mind based on experience aiming to provide the best guest hospitality experiences. With over 20 years in the business, Christian aims to use his expertise to further strengthen the overall performance of Hyatt Regency Hua Hin and THE BARAI. With a young family, Christian’s leisure time has been somewhat restricted in recent years, although we have seen photographic evidence of beach runs and the golf courses are beckoning. Maybe when the seventh annual Hyatt Open at Banyan Golf Course comes around in mid July he will be in the field.
Our thanks to Khun Tubtim Premyodhin, the Hyatt Regency’s Marketing Communications Manager, and to Christian for their valuable time spent away from the settling-in process. Our best wishes go to Christian and his family for many enjoyable times to come in Hua Hin. Under his guidance the Hyatt seems destined to continue in its award winning ways as one of Hua Hin’s premier hospitality destinations.
