One of the most popular tournaments on the Cha-Am golfing calendar, the Joy’s Open, was held on 15th February 2015 at Palm Hills Golf Course. Well known Cha-Am identity Kolbjorn Moe was the host of the Event for amateurs only for the eighth time with a full field of 60 golfers. The golfers were typically European, especially those from Scandinavian countries; however Thai players are becoming more prominent at each event and this year the overall winner was an eight handicapper with a net 71, Wichote Wangdee. He is a caddie from Sawang, who obviously relished the opportunity to play away from his home course. Another Thai player, Siri Hoppestad, was also the winner from a field of eighteen in the lady’s category.

She had a fantastic net score of 65 and plays off twenty five. The major sponsor for the event was the Sikhara Residence, a residential property project currently under construction, with three of the management staff taking part in the competition. An undertaking to continue that sponsorship was given at the prize-giving dinner in the evening. Joy’s Open is a great example of why golf in the region Is such an important part of community life.

It’s all about getting along with like-minded people in a social and friendly atmosphere. Doesn’t really matter how skilled you are but it is important to be encouraging, welcoming and to keep to the rules. As host Kolbjorn says – “EnJoy your Life – EnJoy your Day – EnJoy your Golf”. The next Joy’s Open will be held on 15th November. You can contact Kolbjorn at the EnJoy To Eat Restaurant in Cha-Am, or sending an e-mail to: kolbjorn.moe@gmail.com.
