To welcome the New Year and strengthen local community in Hua Hin, the Minister of Labour and the Mayor of Hua Hin Municipality have recently approved the establishment of Hua Hin Women Group. The approval was officiated along with the budget allocation for 35 local communities by the Prachuab Khirikhan Provincial Administration Office. According to Mr. Saiyud Namklan, the Assistant to the M.P. and the Advisor of the Labour Minister Mr. Chalermchai Srion, the Hua Hin Women Group was established upon a meeting with a housewives group in Hua Hin. The Group, chaired by Mrs. Thongyoi Kerdhin and co-chaired by Mrs.
Darunee Baiket and Mrs. Bang-on Waidab, consists of 300 – 500 female members from 35 local communities in Hua Hin. A non-profit non-governmental group, the Hua Hin Women Group aims to encourage local woman participation in traditional, cultural and local activities and boost unity among the members. As both governmental and private sectors did not give much emphasis on woman power, setting up the Group will also symbolize and encourage roles of Thai women in social works.
Only in the Hua Hin municipal area, there are 35 local communities. Each of them has a chair and committee members responsible for monitoring infrastructure in their community with cooperation of the executives from the Hua Hin Municipality. In this year, the Minister of Labour and the Chair of the Prachuab Khirikhan Provincial Administration Office have allocated a budget of 700,000 Baht, 20,000 of which will be provided to each local community in Hua Hin, for social works, such as a youth training on drug prevention and knowledge management on public health and environment.
Besides, as a main organization with prime responsibility for taking care of all local communities in Hua Hin, the Hua Hin Municipality will allocate additional budget of 50,000 for each community to facilitate its work. “I’m very glad that the provincial administration organization and the local office realize the importance of the Hua Hin Women Group because it represents solidarity, love and unity among local people in Hua Hin. This will be a pilot project on social activities that strengthen people participation which other provinces in Thailand should follow,” concluded Mr. Saiyud.
