Mr. Suwat Liptapanlop, the president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand under the patronage of His Majesty the King, announced that the city of Hua Hin and B.E.C. Tero Entertainment were proud to present the World Invitation tennis match between 2 tennis superstars Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. The match will take place on Saturday, 29 December 2012 at the Centennial Park, Intercontinental Hua Hin Resort, from 5 p.m. onwards. Tickets are now available for 1,500 Baht at Thai Ticket Major and Major Cineplex Hua Hin. A professional American tennis player, Serena Williams has won 27 Grand Slam titles, including five Wimbledon and five Australian Open championships, and several Olympic gold medals. Serena turned pro in 1995.
Two years later, she was already No. 99 in the world rankings—up from 304 just 12 months before. In 1999, she beat out her sister Venus Williams in their race to the family’s first Grand Slam win, when she captured the U.S. Open title. Again, in 2002, she won the French Open, the U.S. Open, and Wimbledon, defeating Venus in the finals of each tournament. Victoria Azarenka, an aggressive baseliner known for her searing strokes and loud shrieks, has registered her best results on hard court, winning nine of her 10 career titles on the surface.
Azarenka captured her first career major title and clinched the world No. 1 ranking for the first time when she crushed Maria Sharapova, 6-2, 6-0, in the 2012 Australian Open final after defeating defending champ Kim Clijsters in the semifinal.
