With more than twenty years of culinary experience, Chef Jakub’s varied and successful career has taken him from his native Czech Republic to work in some of the best restaurants and hotels in the UK, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, and even a spell working as personal chef to Pope Benedict XVI… but more on that later! Chef Jakub grew up in the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany where he l earned at an early age that quality foods are an essential factor in preparation of a good meal.
As a child, he watched his father prepare culinary masterpieces around Europe. His parents were avid travelers and instilled in Jakub the importance of experiencing the many diverse cuisines from around the globe. In 1998, at the tender age of 16, Jakub deci ded to begin his culinary journey by s tudying at The Grand Hotel Pupp in Carlsbad where he spent 3 years and obtained a Culinary Diploma. In 2002, after completing one year military service with the Czech Air Force, Jakub began his career at The Four Seasons Prague Hotel. Four years later he was transferred to F our Seasons’ prestigious property in Park Lane, London, where he worked alongside Executive Chef Bernd Meyer and Sandy Bohm. In 2008, Jakub’s culinary adventure took him to Auckland, New Zealand where he spent two years before returning to England, wher e he joined Heston Blumenthal’s famo us Fat Duck Restaurant, a three Michelin Stars establishment with the title of the second best restaurant in the world.
He then journeyed on to another small town called Newbury where he joined a two Michelin star property named The Vineyard at Stockcross. The highlight of Jakub’s career arrived when he travelled to Milan to improve his Italian culinary techniques with dear friend, Dario Busnelli, and the opportunity to serve as the personal chef to Pope Benedict XVI during his stay in Czech Republic arose. After stints working in Prague and Bangkok, Jakub was appointed Executive Sous Chef at The Datai in Langkawai, where he would eventually acquire the title of Executive Chef.
He then returned to Bangkok where he held various executive chef positions at t hree of the capital’s leading hotels: the Landmark Hotel, Anantara Riverside and AVANI Riverside. In his current role as Executive Chef at S heraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa and Sheraton Hua Hin Pranburi Villas, Chef Jaku b oversees The Deck International restaurant, Award-winning InAzia, signature Pan-Asian restaurant, Luna Lanai oceanfront restaurant, Salas Italian restaurant, Sundara Spor ts Lounge, Yamyen rooftop, local produce-inspired Luna La Pran restaurant, Dalah modern Asian cuisine restaurant as well as room service, catering and special events.
