A King’s Birthday Tribute - Sculpting a Frozen Buddha Statue

A team of ice sculptors in Hua Hin have carved an ice statue to mark His Majesty the King’s 88th birthday on December 5th. The ice carving was sculpted in front of the Hua Hin Railway Station, adding more colour to this year’s activities to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday. Award winning ice sculptor Alongkorn Timcharoen, of Hua Hin and six fellow ice artists used 99 blocks of ice to create the sculpture of the Buddha statue. They worked from noon and then took part in a candlelight ceremony. The Saraburi Vocational College students showed their ice-sculpting skills after winning first prize at the recent Harbin Ice and Snow Festival in China. Mr Alongkorn has previously competed in several ice sculpture contests in Thailand and abroad, including in Harbin China.
