Phetchakasem Road Improvement Needed

The urgent project to improve the Phetchakasem Road has lately been discussed and supported by the Police Commander of Prachuab Khirikhan, the Superintendent of Hua Hin, the Hua Hin Land Transport Office and the Hua Hin Municipality. Aiming to introduce Phetchakasem Road as a good model of a well-organized street, the project will prohibit any advertisement boards, roadside parking and taking of footpath for personal use. From a meeting on the 14th of June 2012 at the Hua Hin Municipality chaired by the Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichien Tantawiriya and the Hua Hin Superintendent Pol. Gen. Damrongsak Thong-ngamtrakul, road improvement will be done by a tunnel that serves as an entrance and exit to and from Hua Hin to the Klai Kangwon Royal Palace.

According to Maj. Gen. Wichien, the area that needs the improvement is full of advertisement boards which distract drivers. Some areas, especially roads in front of the Hua Hin Hospital, are under construction which is not completed on time, thus often causing road accidents. Others, such as areas in front of Plearn Wan and Bun Thavorn, are used as a roadside parking area, causing traffic congestion within Hua Hin. To make things worse, many footpaths along the road are taken by some food sellers, making it difficult to walk conveniently.

Highly concerned with the problems, the Hua Hin authorities launch this project to fix the road and make it better organized with the hope that, upon its completion, Phetchakasem Road will look like Rachadamnern Avenue in Bangkok and serve as a gateway to Hua Hin for both royal family members and tourists.
