The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is Asia’s biggest and most popular regatta. Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event has been held every year since during the first week of December. With Royal Patronage, the Regatta is organised by the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.
The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta 2015 will be held at Kata Beach Resort and Spa from December 5th to December 12th and will host international racing classes with around 150 boats and 1,500 sailors competing for one of sailing’s most prestigious trophies. Kata Beach Resort and Spa will also host the opening ceremony on December 6th, as well as the Closing Royal Award Ceremony on the event’s final day. Comprising five days of racing on challenging, scenic courses held among the Andaman Sea islands, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta brings some of the world’s fastest, independent racing teams.
The regatta supports tourism in Phuket, and Thailand as a whole, with an expected economic contribution of around 300 million baht. For more information see www.kingscup.com
