The Veterinary Service Work of the Hua Hin Municipality’s Public Health and Environment Division is launching a campaign on vaccination to prevent rabies and launch birth control for dogs and cats from March 5-12, 2012.
Taking place throughout the Hua Hin municipal area, the activity aims to raise awareness of local people and protect pet dogs and cats from rabies, one of the major contagious diseases in Thailand during hot weather. Every year, rabies bitten victims claim over 5,500 lives all over the world. Although Thai government and relevant agencies work collaboratively and continuously to control it, many people are killed mainly due to inadequate vaccinations that only cover 80% of all pet dogs and cats. In addition, the number of stray dogs and cats increase all the time whilst most people lack proper understanding on rabies prevention. These are some of the reasons why rabies prevention is not easy.
Under the campaign, pets, stray dogs and cats will be vaccinated and owners will learn how to take care of them properly – a sustainable way of rabies control and prevention.
Vaccinations will be carried out free of charge by professional vets who visit all communities in Hua Hin’s municipal areas.
