Sam Roi Yot Hotels are Paying the Price for Breaking the Rules

The Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan has ordered the closure of more than 60 hotel businesses at Sam Roi Yot because they did recive permission to operate and have been built on public land. Most of these have closed already with signs proclaiming “Temporary Closure”. The are is now very quiet with employess nfrom these businesses seeking government help and wanting the hotels to reopen. Mr. Kittipat Samdengdej, President of Sam Roi Yot Tourism Club, says he has filed a petition to the Dumrongdhama Centre of the Ministry of Interior in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province to ask for help to alleviate the problem for thw staff. The closures were ordered because the businesses could not apply for a license because documents to prove their rights to the land are yet to be available. Mr.Chaichana Suthiworachai, the sheriff of Sam Roi Yod, said: “ Many of entrepreneurs who operate a business on Sam Roi Yot beaches are open without permission”.
