The Airports of Thailand (AOT) officially opened the second passenger terminal at the revamped Don Mueang International Airport on March 8th where ‘Sleep Box’ is available for services to night flight passengers.
AOT director Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said the opening of Terminal 2 will enable the airport to adequately accommodate up to 30 million passengers a year. He said Terminal 2 is filled with restaurants and stalls and toilets at 44 locations. An additional feature is called Sleep Box to serve passengers who have to wait for late night flights. There will be 25 sleep boxes but initially only five will be on service, he said. Sleep Box comprises of 15 sq.m. hotel rooms with ensuite bathrooms, and is set to serve flyers who have to wait for late-night flights, said Nitinai Sirimatthakarn.
Being the size of a budget hotel room, Sleep Box is equipped with air-conditioning, a television and an ensuite bathroom with amenities. The service is expected to cater to flyers that transfer from Suvarnabhumi and have a long wait between flights. Rates starts at THB 1,000 for the first three hours with an additional THB 200 per hour after that or THB 1,800 for a whole night. The price is THB 300 if you just want to take a quick shower. He also revealed that AOT has plan to invest over 10 billion baht on its Phase 3 development plan to improve the unused domestic flight terminal and build new passenger terminal to connect the Don Mueang electric train station where the Red Line, Airport Link and Phyathai -Don Mueang adjoin. A new parking building is also under the development phase that will have space for 3,000 cars.
