In deference to their FIFA ranking of number 70 in the world, Finland defeated the title holders Sweden 3-2 in an all-Scandinavian final to be declared the 2014 champions at the two day December Hua Hin World Cup. Six nations competed in this yearly event, which saw big scores in some games (Denmark 12 V Ireland 4). Each team has 4 group games followed by a ‘pride playoff (to determine 5th & 6th), semifinals, a playoff (to determine 3rd & 4th and then the main event; the Finals. Here are the final standings:

The player of the tournament and ‘Golden Boot Award’ went to Sven, a very talented German footballer who scored a total of 15 goals from 5 games. About Expat Football in Hua Hin The Station Football venue is an artificially turfed pitch with a large net both around and over the grounds. It’s fully enclosed to avoid retrieving balls from outside of the grounds and keeping the neighbours happy. It’s not full size (futsal sized) so 6 players a team is the standard format, without off-side rules. The idea is to promote social football, typically based on different nationalities but flexible in team makeup and open to all aspiring footballers regardless of age, experience or ability. It’s not unusual to see posts on various website forums from potential players looking for a kick. Look no further, this is the place!

Where: Travel down Soi 94 away from Petchakasem Road and over the railway line. Look for the Garden Pizza Restaurant (left side) or Bake Café (right side), turn left at that corner. You’ll also see a sign for the Korat Kitchen pointing that way. The grounds are about 500 metres down this soi (Charoen Phatthana).on the right hand side.

When: Every Monday and Friday from 16.30 PM until 1800. The season goes through the ‘high season’ and beyond. Bring: Sports footwear suitable for the artificial surface and the usual shorts and shirt.

Cost: Expect a fee of about 100 THB to cover expenses.
