Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa recently held an unforgettable “Geoff Merrill Wine Dinner” for discerning guests and wine lovers alike. The wine dinner event was co-sponsored by Mondo Vino, the first Aperitif Wine Bar in Hua Hin.
Wine enthusiasts were welcomed and introduced to a selection of rare light wines fermented using only the natural yeast of the grape to provide a remarkable lightness and crystal clarity of flavour. The elegantly-attended event commenced with a pre-dinner cocktail at @Black, the Sheraton’s ultimate disco place. In a fashionable atmosphere wine lovers were treated to Zardetto Private Cuvee Brut accompanied by the Director of Culinary & Service, Andreas Schimanski’s deluxe canapés and savory bites.
To accompany such outstanding wines, Andreas Schimanski and his talented culinary team created a sumptuous four-course menu of international delicacies. Andeas introduced Mr. Peter Kirketerp, a Director and representative from Mondo Vino, who was the evening’s guest speaker and wine expert.
Guests enjoyed the first of four beautifully executed dishes, a delicately prepared, Lobster Mango Salad sweet chilli, vanilla dressing and coriander oil. This was accompanied by the first wine of the evening a 2011 Geoff Merrill Foothills Sauvignon Blanc.
This was followed Duo of Quail; pan fried quail breast, braised quail leg stewed Puy lentils with Portobello mushrooms paired with 2007 Geoff Merrill G&W Cabernet Sauvignon. Then slow roasted premium lamb loin wrapped in herb crepe with sautéed Savoy cabbage, red wine jus and rucola pesto balanced with 2005 Geoff Merrill “Reserve Shiraz”. The Reserve Shiraz was passionately described as “the best of the night”.
The memorable evening ended with a specially devised dessert of chocolate raspberry gateaux served with a traditional sweet wine, the 2011 P.J. Valckenberg Gewurztraminer. This combination combined beautifully to give a fruity, sweet end to a wonderful evening.
