Horst bolts in
HG has been and gone, so a warm welcome to HK. Yes, after more than two decades, many spent as Executive Chef, Herve Guedon decided to look for pastures new and in his place a warm Dusit Thani Hua Hin welcome to Mr Horst Kocisek, an Austrian national, who arrives with an International pedigree within 5-star international hotel brands and a previous assignment in Malaysia.
The middle of three brothers, Horst was born in Corundum, the largest wine region in Austria. Given that his mother helped run a bakers and winery, while his older brother is based in Johannesburg as a culinary advisor for Lufthansa, it is perhaps unsurprising that Horst found himself attracted to the world of food & beverage.
Having graduated from Vienna University, Horst attended the highly-regarded Waldegg Hotel School in Austria and also served time as an apprentice under the guidance of countless top chefs in the kitchens of several well-known establishments.
His solid grounding held him in good stead and after working his way through the ranks, Horst has gone on to serve as Executive Chef for over 18 years in some of the world’s renowned hotel corporations such as the Hilton, Fairmont Princess Hotel, Holland America Carnival Cruise Line, Hyatt Hotels and Shangri-La Hotels in Asia, Caribbean, America, Middle East and Europe, including as a member of hotel opening teams.
It was in China that Horst met his wife, Gina Qing Bian, a Chinese music maestro who at the time was in charge of entertainment at Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing. The couple have one daughter, Angelique Jasmine, an art design student in Sydney Australia and down under is a favourite holiday retreat, the family spending time together whilst Horst pursues his hobbies of tennis, ice hockey, diving and sailing.
If traditional cuisine with a twist is what titillates your taste buds, then we think you’ll find Horst’s style right up your street, for that is what highly-motivated and forward-thinking Horst describes as his speciality, stressing that he prefers a trendsetting modern approach to presentation without losing the authenticity of the original dish.
A dedicated team player with exceptional management skills, a highly-regarded trainer and developer of local talents, we believe that Horst will literally be bringing to the table the highest standards of quality and presentation in the hospitality industry. We hope you will agree.
