Each year in August, Hua Hin hosts a colourful yachting regatta, when upwards of 300 competitors take part in a number of different classes for various prizes.
The Hua Hin Regatta is an annual event that has been organised since the year 2000 in honour of His Majesty King Bhumiphol Adulyadej who excelled in sailing sportsmanship in Thailand. His Majesty won the gold medal in the OK Dinghy at the Fourth Southeast Asian Peninsular Games (SEAP) Games in 1967 in Phuket.
A number of Royal Trophies will be presented including:
v The Royal Vega Rudder Trophy for various Classes
v The Super Mod National Championship
v The OK Dinghy Mod National Championship
v The Princess Cup for Optimist Championship
This year’s Hua Hin Regatta takes place along the beach by the Regent Cha-am Resort & Spa with 4 days of racing from August 5 – 12, 1013
The opening ceremony and welcome party will take place at 7.00 PM Tuesday 6th August at 6.00 PM. The prize giving and closing ceremony takes place at 5.30 PM on Sunday 11th August.
The organising authority is the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand in conjunction with the Royal Thai Navy, Tourist Authority of Thailand and government offices of Cha-Am, Hua Hin, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khirikhan.
