Wilaiwan is a bakery, a café and a restaurant and is conveniently located diagonally opposite from Cicada Market. This is in a beautiful colonial style house with plenty of parking, great outside seating areas and beautiful interiors. It also happens to be next door to Hua Hin Today’s offices, yet I had never eaten a proper meal there.
I had previously ordered croissants, sausage rolls and small snacks but we were looking forward to trying how the restaurant would measure up with a complete meal. As usual we had no idea which food would be served. The extended lunch started of with Back Fin Crab Meat Salad which was delicious. The crab meat mix came with a green salad served on the side. It was fresh and you could actually bite into the crab meat, with this dish it’s not always the case.
Next came two main courses; Spaghetti Carbonara with Bacon and Roasted Duck Breast with sauce served with mashed potato and salad. Thankfully there was two us because there was no way one person could have finished this; the duck dish was a very generous portion.
The Spaghetti Carbonara was very Italian with big chunks of bacon on top; flavoursome and creamy just as it should be. The Duck dish was my absolute favourite with a big dollop of smooth & tasty mashed potato, a big salad and as I described, a very generous portion of boneless duck breast slices. The meat was very tender and cooked to perfection. My colleague is more weight conscious than I, but she dug in. Not her usual style but that should tell you how appetising it was.
Last but least was my second favorite, Crepe Cake with strawberry. The Crepe Cake was very, very more-ish; thin layers of crepe immersed in something sweet and yummy with strawberry on top.
So now we know. Wilaiwan doesn’t just have great everyday breads, baguettes & cakes, they also serve a great dinner or lunch. I also like the large patio, complete with a children’s area if you wish to eat outside.
