IKEA TRIP to Bangkok-4 Dec 2013
The IKEA trip was done on the 4th of December and one whole big buss plus one small buss of Swedes headed to Bangkok’s Mega Bagna IKEA to do there Christmas shopping. The buss left at 8pm from the Clock Tower (on the dot by the way) and in true Swedish style the trip started of with refreshment of sandwiches and coffee. The buss reached IKEA and Bangkok a little before lunch. The next 4 hours was left for the members to walk around Megabagna and IKEA at their own leisure. Many Swedes had pre planned there shopping from IKEA catalogues and came back to the buss at 4pm laden with blue IKEA bags full of Christmas goodies. At 4pm sharp the buss headed back to Hua H in a little bit more subdued fashion after the mad shopping frenzy. This trip is an annual and is well worth it the price of 500 THB with refreshments and return buss ticket plus the Swedish camaraderie is free of charge.

Santa Lucia at Dusit Thani Hua Hin Hotel-13 Dec 2013

The annual Santa Lucia festivities at Dusit Thani Hua Hin saw another successful Christmas event arranged by the Swedish Associations, Dusit Thani Hua Hin and Sanuk Swedish School in Hua Hin. As per our story in December issue Santa Lucia is a traditional event happening in December all over Sweden. Usual a young child is chosen to represent Santa Lucia an Italian martyr dressed in white with real or fake candles on her head singing the song Santa Lucia. She is always followed by appropriately attired little boys and girls. No Christmas is realy quit the same without this Santa Lucia tradition in Scandinavia.
At Dusit Thani the dean of Sanuk Mrs. Monica Fernqvist and her daughter started the event by explaining the tradition of Santa Lucia followed by the traditional performance of Santa Lucia procession by the students of Swedish Sanuk School in Hua Hin. Aproximatlt 150 non Dusit Thani guests attended the event. After the event the Santa Lucia children gave out traditional Christmas cookies and there was a buffet with Scandinavian delicacies.
