The government of Thailand has started offering “Elite” residency visas for wealthy foreign nationals, allowing them to live in the country for a cost of 3,000 USD or 403 GBP a year, aimed at capitalizing on increased global uncertainty over borders and immigration.
This program offers seven (7) different elite packages, of which, the “Elite Ultimate Privilege” is marked as the most expensive scheme. The price is 60,000USD for the 20 years residency, along with a 600USD yearly membership fee packed with privileges entitling members to state-sponsored concierge programme, VIP access to government agencies dealing with immigration, driving licenses, and work permits.
Furthermore, the government will also provide complimentary annual health check-up at a private hospital, 24 spa treatments and golfing trips a year, and return airport transfers.
The special residence visa is issued by the Thailand Privilege Card Company Limited — a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Mr. Pruet Boobphakam, president of the Thailand Elite program, told Business Insider that VIP residents would get extra help from the government: “We rise to the occasion for our members. We can apply for a work permit if they’d like to. We can apply for a driving license if they’d like to. We are helping them to get those licenses.”
