We thought readers may be interested in learn Thai schoolchildren see their world.  As a project in cooperation with the Hua Hin Vitthayalai School (Salesian) Principal, English Language Teachers and Students, Hua Hin Today has organised a competition for the students to write a small essay in English.

The topic of the essay is chosen by the teachers.  The student selected by the teachers as the writer of the best essay will then have it published in Hua Hin Today and be presented with a framed copy of the article (including their essay).  Not proof read or in any way or changed; just the students own words.  Perhaps imperfect English, but importantly how the boys and girls express themselves about the topic; real contemporary Thai social culture.

We hope that the student concerned will proudly take this award home to show his or her family and have an even greater incentive to improve their English and that this will become a regular addition to Hua Hin Today.

This month the first winner is a young lady, 10 year old Sukamon Kanotratananankul (fang fang).

The topic of the essay was ‘My parents, My heroes’.  Well done fang fang your framed award is on the way!

My Parents, My heroes

(transcribed just in case the scanned original is not clear)

‘My parents is my heroes because they help and take care of me when I was a baby.  My mom name is Suang, and dad name is Soy.  My parents have a business at home.  They sell thing to get money to buy thing to me.  My parents teach me everything but sometime I do something wrong they will tell me how to do it right.  My dad always cook food to me and mom to eat.  My father likes my chef in my house.

My heroes is who will protected me and do everything to me.  I love heroes because they protected and loved me.  Who are my heroes when I grow up I will take care off them like they take care of me.’
