More than 200 men from around England have gathered to take part in the British Beard and Moustache Championships. Held in the town of Bath, participants competed for bragging rights and the pride of having the UK’s finest facial hair. Participants came from around the world – including Australia and the United States – dressed in fantastic outfits to parade on stage in front of a cheering crowd.

The judges scored the bearded beauties on a number of technicalities including length and eccentricity. Judge Lea Turner said a winning beard has to have a bit of bounce. “Something to grab onto. It’s got to be bouncy you know. It’s got to bounce back when you grab it,” she said. Categories for moustaches include Natural, English, Handlebar and Freestyle. In the beard division, there were prizes in the categories of Natural Full, Natural Full with Styled Moustache and Freestyle. Those with a little less facial hair could compete in the Natural Goatee, Musketeer, Freestyle and Sideburns categories.
