Mo’Nique, Waltz win LA critics’ supporting honors

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mo’Nique has won the supporting-actress award for “Precious” and Christoph Waltz has earned the supporting-actor prize for “Inglourious Basterds” from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

Mo’Nique won for her role as a hateful welfare mother in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.” Waltz won for playing a gleefully savage Nazi in “Inglourious Basterds.”

Director Jason Reitman and writer Sheldon Turner shared the screenplay prize for “Up in the Air.”

The Los Angeles critic group’s is announcing other awards, including 2009’s best picture, later Sunday.

The critics’ prizes are among early honors on Hollywood’s long run-up to the Academy Awards on March 7. Oscar nominations come out Feb. 2.
