COPENHAGEN (AP) — Danish police say hundreds of protesters are marching toward the U.N. climate conference in Copenhagen in an attempt to disrupt talks on a new global warming deal.
Protesters say they want to take over the global conference and turn it into a “people’s assembly.”
Police officers are trying to keep the demonstrators from accessing the Bella Center, where envoys from 193 nations are negotiating a pact to curb global warming.
A separate group of activists from Friends of Earth are staging a sit-in protest outside the security area because they are not being allowed into the conference.
